Tried several dishes here and the experience was genuinely enjoyable — clean environment, efficient service, and some standout items worth returning for.
Marinated Beef with Chives Rice Roll (5/5)
The rice roll wrapper is so thin it borders on translucent, delivering a smooth, delicate mouthfeel. Inside, the marinated beef is savory, tender, and lifted by the fragrance of chives. The sweet–savory sauce ties everything together beautifully. A must-order.
Dough Stick Rice Roll (Zha Liang) (4.5/5)
Executed with precision. The wrapper is soft and glossy, while the dough stick inside stays crisp. The textural contrast is outstanding, and the sauce enhances every bite.
Fresh Water Fish Sliced Congee (4/5)
Silky and creamy congee base that melts instantly on the palate. The fish slices are fresh, firm, and pleasantly crunchy. While the texture is excellent, the broth leans mild, lacking that deeper, aromatic fish note that would elevate it further.
Shrimp and Pork Wontons (4/5)
Generous filling with fresh, bouncy seafood and savory pork wrapped in a smooth skin. Flavorful on their own, though the broth could use a touch more aroma.
Shredded Pork & Preserved Egg Congee (3.5/5)
Comforting, but the flavors feel more side-by-side than integrated. Compared to the Fish Congee, the harmony between ingredients and congee base isn’t as pronounced.
Overall, a worthwhile trip with several memorable dishes — especially the rice rolls, which truly shine.
The take out shrimp rice roll, kind of disappointed because just only 2 roll and not much shrimp inside. Usually dine in is better . The beef congee with century egg is good, went home still hot.
Sept 2/25
My last day in Toronto before flying to Europe. The iced milk tea was pretty good. The congee, rice rolls, deep fried pastries were good, but not the best quality that I hoped for. The congee at Sam's Congee Delight was better.
This is the second time that I came to this small store tucked in a small shopping mall. They serve Chinese style breakfast from 8:00am and even offers good deal when you dine between 8:00-11:00am. It is hard to find a good value breakfast restaurant here in Toronto, not like back in China, breakfast has so many choices and they all open very early from 6:00am. I got the morning combo - porridge + rice noodle rolls + free HK milk tea. The porridge came in big bowl with lots of seafood, pork and peanuts, the rice noodle rolls having beef and shrimp, all very fresh and tasty, I also ordered Chinese donut. I was very full after the big breakfast, not having appetite for lunch. The porridge is good for 2-3 people, I wish they have smaller portion for 1 person. The service is minimal, but efficient. The interior is very simple, but clean. I would come again if I need warm Chinese style breakfast.
Kinda small inside and quite busy for a weekday lunch. Food was good, decent value. There's a step at the entrance so need to be careful and it's not wheelchair friendly.
