We needed help fixing the external arch over our doorway, it was beginning to fall. When I sent Daniel the pictures he identified the problem immediately and told me exactly how he was going to fix it and how long it would take. Every step of the way he was professional in his interactions with us. He took time to answer our questions. We’re so happy with how it turned out, we know we’re never going to have this problem again. I highly recommend York Masonry.
I had a wide, road facing brick chimney on an older character bungalow. The upper half of the chimney had been re-built 30+ years ago and was reduced from 2 flues down to 1. It was clear the re-build was done by someone inexperienced. The cap and bricks on the upper half were starting to crumble and stayed damp most of the year.
I wanted it re-done in real stone for durability, had sketched up some nice accent features to add at the top for added character, and wanted the second flue restored. I knew this was not a simple fix.
For years I got the runaround from other masonry businesses unwilling or just plain inexperienced to take on more complex work. All of them proposed inferior materials and construction techniques. Then, I happened upon York Masonry GTA’s website. Their portfolio showed they didn’t shy away from tackling more complex projects.
From the very beginning, Daniel was very personable, responsive and knowledgeable. He recommended quality materials to compliment my home and an approach to achieve the top accent work I was looking for. He also recommended chimney pots to better compliment the design. He continued to work very closely with me throughout project planning, answered all my questions promptly and worked with me to mitigate impacts on the existing gardens and landscaping around the site.
Daniel took great care in setting up the scaffolding and preparing the site. Daniel and his assistant Saif showed up promptly every day and made sure to clean up the site each day before leaving. They did an excellent job shaping the stones. They were very accommodating of my questions and photos to document the experience. Any concerns I had were promptly addressed.
While the work ended up being more extensive and expensive than anticipated due to the chimney’s deteriorated interior structure, Daniel was there every step of the way with solutions and still managed to complete the project on time.
The final result is nothing short of stunning and has completely up-scaled the look of the entire house. It looks better than I first imagined. I get compliments on it from the neighbours and cars have stopped to take a look.
Great craftsmanship, scheduling, and customer service.
Dan built a concrete cast in place steel reinforced footing. And a concrete block foundation wall, filled solid with grout and rebar. He also waterproofed the perimeter.
He stayed on schedule, and budget.
I would definitely recommend him.
Thanks Dan!
Daniel took the time to work with us to understand our concerns/objectives/assessing our needs and provided us with options. Then he did a terrific job repairing and extending the stonework - including finding a stone that was very close to the stones that we had installed 15 years ago and are no longer available. We would highly recommend the services of York Masonry based on our very positive experience and we expect to use their services again. The attached photos are of before & after. This has been a great find as the company we dealt with for years in the past has now closed (due to retirement) and we've been concerned about getting another company that we like for this type of work.
Daniel Goldsmith and his team repaired my
Chimney crown/cap at the start of Oct 2024.
Background: I am not a mason and this chimney is a nonfunctional purely decorative chimney.
Daniel provided a quite reasonable quote and plan. He was very responsive during all phases of the project. They showed up on time and the work was promptly and smoothly completed on the agreed upon timeline.
Please take a look at the attached pictures for more details to give you an idea of the initial condition of the chimney and final repair.
